Make a Forest
2011 has been announced the INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF FORESTS by the United Nations. The objectives of the UN in short are to reverse the lost of forest cover worldwide and increase future sustainable forest management. Diverse programs, forums and projects will bring this theme to the attention of governments, policy makers and entrepreneurs and provide clear guidance on the future work of the international arrangement on forests.
But how will the public at large become involved in this programme? Would it be possible to increase awareness by launching the theme from another perspective? Like from a creative and imaginative one. Could one artificial tree make a difference locally, and many artificial trees globally? Why not make a forest together.
A world of trees makes one big forest
MAKE a FOREST is a cross-cultural and interconnected global project that aims to bring sustainable awareness and creativity together in a way never seen before. Trees have been a source of inspiration for many artists over a long period. Take the atmospheric Solitary Tree from Caspar David Friedrich, Van Gogh's famous Mulberry Tree, the poetic Tree of Life from Gustav Klimt or Mondrian's Gray Tree.
Artificial trees foster our imagination. They connect us with nature and at the same time awaken creative thinking. Which is a great approach to challenge anyone to come up with answers on big questions like deforestation, sustainable forest management and ways to re-introduce nature into the dense urban environment.
MAKE a FOREST thrives contemporary artists and designers from all over the world to create artificial trees that function as a manifest for maintaining the earth's treasures. All these artificial trees will grow in 2011, the INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF FORESTS, and together they will make a forest that unites, stimulates and enforces the thinking on this important matter. MAKE a FOREST is a creative response to the need to preserve and protect the forests and a very visible way to explain and support the United Nation's cause.
A series of Make A Forest events and activities will be organized by Tien Tien Circle Creatives in collaboration with AIR Taipei (Arts-in-Residence, Taipei)
